Whitechapel Isolation Home

2023 (Year 1 - P3)

An architecture exploring the spaces of isolation in relation to family life. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, I was interested in how shared family spaces are divided when one family member needs to isolate.

I designed a family home in Whitechapel to accommodate these splits. As my first year building project, I explored the concept with a focus on hand drawing, modelling and sketching. Inspired by the forms of nearby Georgian terraces, the final design aimed to allow family moments to continue despite one member being quarantined. I drew on the film ‘A Kind of English’ as a reference of another family home in Whitechapel, and extracted different ‘familial thresholds’ its set and staging.
