Camera Obscura - Tent
2025
Commisioned by UCL professor Philip Steadman - a tent camera obscura. Light is passed through a mirror and lens down into the dark tent. Originally used for landscape painting, the user sits under the fabric tent, a moving image is projected down into the darkness. The lens’ focal length determines the height difference between the camera head and the page at which the image is at its clearest.
Tripod legs are connected to a custom head bracket and rotating 3d printed camera head. The small mirror and lens can be rotated and angled, changing the direction of the image.
